We asked our thriving armed forces alumni to reflect on their experiences, and what Remembrance Day means to them.

Why is Remembrance Day is important to you personally?

It's an opportunity to pay respects to all those that I have known, worked with and served with, as well as remembering all those that are no longer with us. A time to also reflect on the sacrifices made by our ancestors to ensure we have the liberty and freedom that so many of us now take for granted.

How does your service or connection to the Armed Forces shape your perspective?

The world feels more open than it did prior to my service. It's almost like being able to permanently read between the lines of almost every event, conversation or situation I exist in. You only truly know the world and it's darkness, once you spend time staring at it. Due to this, the positives in life shine far brighter in contrast to the darker areas. I also find I have a greater sense of team work since my service and will do all I can for any team I find myself a part of. Win together or lose together.

What is the impact of remembrance on you, your family, or your community?

It's a somber time and at times we can find it difficult to get through, due to the impact my service has had on me and my family. We find it's a time that fills us with immense gratitude when you recognise how much has been given to us, due to the sacrifice of so many.

Can you explain the value of having a supportive employer during this time?

M Group (all managers I've had) have been more than supportive, recognising the requirement for privacy, as well as a safe space to reflect, or take the time to sit down and talk through any issues.

We understand the unique perspective you bring

Are you ready to join a team that values your service as much as you do? If you're looking for a place where your service experience isn't just welcomed but celebrated, where teamwork is a way of life, then let's talk.
