Reducing water loss is one of the biggest challenges facing the UK water sector. Water companies are under increasing pressure to improve network resilience, conserve water resources, and meet leakage reduction targets.
Through our partnership with United Utilities, M Group's leakage specialists are helping deliver those outcomes across the network.
Detecting and repairing leaks is a top priority for United Utilities. It now has over 100 teams working around the clock, fixing more than 1,000 leaks a week on a network of water pipes that is big enough to stretch around the world - saving more than 3.5 million litres a day.
In one afternoon, our leakage team mobilised quickly and located a leak within just one hour of arriving on-site. Working closely with United Utilities technicians, the leak was repaired the same evening.
The result was immediate, with approximately 4m³ of water saved following the repair.
Every leak identified and repaired helps reduce water loss, improve operational performance, and protect a vital natural resource for customers and communities.
Our combined approach of experienced leakage technicians, advanced detection techniques and data-led operational insight helps to improve network resilience for the future.
Across the UK, we support water companies with leakage detection, repair, network optimisation, asset management and innovative technologies designed to improve performance and reduce water loss.
United Utilities continues to make progress on the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure for a century with the Big North West Upgrade. It’s spending more than £13 billion to protect and enhance over 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters whilst safeguarding drinking water supplies for millions of customers.
