ESG Morrison Water Services helps Yorkshire Water deliver water savings through early smart meter rollout

We’ve started work on the Yorkshire Water smart metering services roll out ahead of schedule.

As part of the five-year framework to exchange 1.3 million water meters to smart meters, our team has begun contacting customers in the Sheffield area, with over 5,000 meters installed so far.

Supporting Yorkshire Water’s ambition to halve leakage across the network by 2050, the smart meters are designed to reduce consumption and leakage, enhancing customer experience and providing service improvements.

Our teams have contacted customers to let them know when new smart meters will be exchanged, which in most cases will be fitted in the same location as the existing meter.

By having a smart meter installed, customers will have real-time visibility of their water usage, which in turn will help save water and reduce bills, with customers gaining a better understanding of how to save water.

Smart meters also provide greater visibility of what is happening across the clean water network in hourly readings. Customers will be able to see unusual or unexpected readings on their smart meters, making Yorkshire Water aware of potential leaks, before they become bursts.

As part of the rollout, we work as the delivery partner for Netmore, a leading global network operator, who will help enable seamless and secure data transmission, supporting Yorkshire Water’s targeted service improvements, enhanced customer support, and usage efficiencies.

We will exchange 160,000 smart meters in 2025 and will finish the rollout in North Yorkshire by 2030.

Across M Group Services we’re working to deliver an infrastructure that the people, communities and economies of the UK and Ireland need, and the planet deserves.
