EV charging reaches new heights with innovative trial

Dyer & Butler has been working on the trial of an innovative mobile Electric Vehicle (EV) fast-charging solution at Heathrow Airport.

Working with its client, Heathrow Airport, alongside Commercial Surface Access and E-GAP, an energy delivery solutions provider, the trial aims to test the feasibility of EV charging vans delivering recharges to electric vehicles at the airport’s car parks.

The advanced charging method, a part of Heathrow’s innovation plan, works to provide mobile EV services from a battery pack mounted in the back of a van. This allows the van to travel to a user’s destination and charge their vehicles from the van.

Dyer & Butler has worked to build an e - Hub structure in the Authorised Vehicle Area (AVA) car park which houses the electrical fitout, including the innovative electrical charging equipment for the battery packs. As well as providing a space for E-GAP to charge the battery systems contained within the delivery vans, the e-Hub also acts as a base of operations for the trial.

The trial is currently available to staff and passengers who park in Heathrow off terminal colleague and passenger car parks, with the hopes to not only test the viability of this technology but provide an opportunity for Heathrow colleagues to commute using electric vehicles, while supporting the extended London ULEZ.

Partnering with E-GAP, Heathrow Airport colleagues can book a charge for their EV vehicle while at work and get their EVs charged on demand.
