Meet Amy McMillan, Compliance Advisor

How long have you been with M Group?

I have worked for Caledonia Water Alliance now for 5 months. Previously originally a few years back now I started off as a SHEQ Administrator for Morrisons Energy Services and had then left to pursue a role in Health and Safety as an advisor within the Scottish Power contracts. Flashforward to now, I have joined back to M Group as a compliance advisor following all the successful growth!

Why did you choose M Group?

I chose M Group because of the opportunity to work for a business that makes a real difference. They are a company that take safety and compliance seriously and are wanting to improve everyday. What has kept me here has been the support and guidance I have been given and the positive impact my role has had already.

What does a typical day in your life look like?

Usually majority of my time during the week is spent visiting sites and working alongside the teams to drive behaviours. I like to be out and getting as involved as I can by learning from the teams and building relationships. Being on site gives me more insight into any issues and allows me to get as much feedback from the teams on site as possible.

How do you work together as a team?

We work closely with the operational teams as well as management to drive these behaviours on site. By working together and having the support of Management this helps us to constantly improve compliance and make systems and processes much easier to follow! We also have weekly meetings with management and hold support groups with the operational teams.

What might surprise people about working here?

The support that you get from the Senior Leadership Team and Management as a whole! They are willing to get involved and provide as much support and guidance with my role in compliance and are very on board with the systems rolled out. It's also somewhere where working together is very strong and there's so much opportunity for your role to progress.

How would you describe the culture and community?

My team works closely with other departments within the business to identify any risks and improve processes to make sure we are staying safe and compliant. By compliance being at a high standard this has a positive impact on helping the teams deliver an essential service that communities and customers rely on everyday.

What motivates you?

Driving positive behaviours and keeping people safe.

How are you supported with learning and development?

This is through things such as holding weekly meetings and daily check-ins were we share any feedback and make improvements where necessary. We also have Performance Development reviews where we discuss what goals we have and where we want to be in the future.

What opportunities are there to grow?

I feel this is due to the amount of opportunity and growth that the company has. There's many opportunities to progress within the business and grow and you get the support and guidance from others to do so!

How would you describe the team spirit?

I would say it's a very strong sense! This is because my team support each other and work together to achieve goals. We are encouraged to speak up and ask questions and learn from each other.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying?
