We installed 33kV and 11KV switchboards on behalf of UK Power Networks (UKPN).
We needed to install 33kV and 11kV switchboards off the 132kV to 33kV and 33kV to 11kV transformers.
This 33kV switchgear would be fed off the 132kV AIS compound, and protection designs were required.
The main works completed by our team during this project included:
- Maintaining and managing all principal contractor duties to accommodate all site activities.
- Procuring of all materials.
- Construction of the 132kV grid site, including the establishment of the grid site.
- The installation of six bays of 132kV outdoor AIS switchgear.
- The installation of two no. 132/33V 90MVA grid transformers.
- Construction of an elevated control room, 33kV switch room and 11kV switch room.
- Installation of two no 33/11kV 40MVA primary transformers.
- Installation of two no. distribution substations for site LVAC.
- Installation of busbars between all electrical plant including earthing.
- Installation of 33kV cables from GT1 & GT2 to the 33kV switch room and installation of circuit breakers.
- Construction of all roadways and drainage.
- Commissioning of all primary and secondary electrical equipment.
- Demolition of barn upon completion of construction works and reinstatement of grass.
As principal designer, we led design management, associated design and work breakdown structure. We used a design package approach, and our lead design manager was out into place to manage the overall coordination and production of the design package.
As principle contractor, we were responsible for the construction management, associated design and work breakdown structure.
We successfully develop, designed, built and commissioned the project using a structured approach to project delivery, including a stage gate process.
This allowed us to protect our clients in the event of project changes and any potential cost increases, as extensive documentation from each stage was available/
As part of our coordination activities, we held regular meetings to review the design, including design interfaces.
Our project manager assigned a wayleave warden to make sure all aspects of wayleaves were managed and delivered on-time and within budget. The waldon developed a communication plan to make sure landowners were kept up to date on all aspects of the work ahead of time.
This collaboration and engagement led to the success of the project.
