What is your role and what do you do day-to-day?

I'm the Head of Technical Safety Assurance within M Group Energy. My daily activities involve working with my team to ensure that our field force keeps themselves and our customers safe.

How did you get to where you are today in your career?

My journey has been marked by hard work, understanding my craft, and forward thinking. At each stage of my career, I wasn't afraid to suggest new ideas to improve the contract.

What skills do you need to be able to do your role?

Effective communication is crucial, regardless of the status of the person you're interacting with. Time management is also key, as we have many projects running at the same time. The metering world is dynamic and fast-paced, so you need to be able to adapt quickly and come up with solutions to problems while maintaining a level head and calm approach.

What do you love or enjoy most about working at M Group?

There are a lot of things I personally love about this business. The top of the list is the people I work with. I couldn't ask for a better team. The opportunities M Group has given me over my 10 years of service are something I'm extremely grateful for. I've managed to go from an engineer to head of technical safety assurance, and the journey has been fast-paced but incredibly rewarding. I'm forever thankful for the support and opportunities provided.

Top three reasons why a career in the infrastructure services is rewarding:

  • Growth: We continue to grow, win contracts, and have stability.
  • People: We have a dynamic and diverse workforce full of different personalities.
  • Variety: No two days are the same. You can plan your day, but it can change in a heartbeat, and I really enjoy that aspect of life.

Highlight of your career and its impact:

Reflecting on this question, the highlight of my career has to be my initial interview and being told I had a job at M Group. While it might not sound significant, if I hadn't turned up for that job interview, who knows what I'd be doing today. By attending that interview, I've climbed the ladder at work, met my now wife, bought a house, and have a wonderful family.
