What is your role and what do you do day-to-day?

I am the Commercial Director at M Group Water. Day-to-day, I oversee the commercial strategy, manage risk, execute on opportunities and ensure financial control and contractual control across our projects. I work closely with the team, clients and stakeholders to drive value, improve margins and deliver successful outcomes.

How did you get to where you are today in your career?

From an academic perspective: I started at university and undertook a degree in Quantity Surveying, followed by an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution and following this, I decided to become chartered. In my career, I started as a quantity surveyor and worked my way up taking on challenging roles in various sectors. I gained experience in a range of sectors including infrastructure, telecoms and housebuilding, developing skills in commercial leadership, stakeholder management and financial control. Continuous learning, building strong relationships and focusing on delivering results has been key to my progress.

What skills do you need to be able to do your role?

Financial acumen, risk management, stakeholder engagement, leadership, problem-solving and communication. 

What do you love or enjoy most about working at M Group?

There is a real drive and pace to M Group which seeks to innovate and improve continuously. I also value the opportunity to mentor others, share knowledge, gain knowledge and help the business grow.

Tell us what is the highlight of your career and what impact it’s had to your life and/or others?   

A key highlight of my career was getting chartered early on. This achievement unlocked new opportunities and really accelerated my growth and allowed me to take on greater responsibility. Now as an FRICS, I use that experience to mentor others and support their development in the industry.
