Together with Connect Plus, Connect Plus Services and National Highways, we recently welcomed local MP Ben Spencer to the M25 to see our Next Generation Concrete Surfacing (NGCS) treatment in action, during planned night works between Junctions 10 and 11.
Delivered for our client Connect Plus on behalf of National Highways, the work is significantly reducing the noise produced when vehicles travel over the joints on the concrete surfaced sections of the motorway, creating a quieter environment for nearby communities, while extending the life of the road surface.
Ben is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Runnymede and Weybridge and his visit offered an opportunity to showcase the expertise, planning and collaboration involved in delivering essential maintenance on the UK's busiest motorway.
Ben was impressed by the noise reduction and the work that’s gone into getting us to this point. He met the team delivering the work on site and saw how they create channels between the large concrete slabs forming the motorway surface, before filling these with specialist cement. Once the cement is dry, they cut a single thin line to allow for expansion of the concrete slabs during hot weather.
This work significantly reduces the noise of vehicles passing over the joints, which is particularly beneficial for local residents during hot weather, when they might sleep with their windows open and spend more time in their gardens.
The process also creates a surface which lasts a long time, compared to covering the sections of concrete motorways with asphalt.”
