Every winter, our teams ensure safe, reliable journeys by gritting and salting critical highway networks and supporting airport operations. In 2024/25, we treated 810,336km of roads with nearly 4,000 tonnes of salt, keeping roads clear and communities connected during challenging weather conditions. Our approach combines specialist training, planning, and rapid response to deliver results when they matter most.

At Heathrow, our dedicated winter resilience team delivered more than 17,000 hours of expert training between August 2025 and February 2026, equipping staff to handle airside operations confidently, whatever the conditions. We work closely with our clients, using collaborative management standards and bespoke systems to ensure every resource is deployed effectively, maintaining safety and smooth operation across the UK’s highways and airports throughout winter.
