At M Group, we are deeply committed to developing our people skills and empowering them to make a positive impact in their communities. One inspiring example is Keeley, Senior Environmental Advisor, M Group Highways, whose work embodies this commitment.
Her essential role in delivering environmental solutions not only supports our highway projects but also ensures the preservation of local ecosystems. Keeley’s journey highlights how we foster our people’s growth through diverse experiences and ongoing training opportunities.
Join us as we dive into her career journey, showcasing her passion for the environment, professional development, and the rewarding aspects of her role at M Group.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My role is so varied, I could start the day with taking important client meetings and completing management paperwork for our larger highways schemes, then by the end of the day I could be out visiting sites taking waste samples or auditing depots!
One of my favourite experiences was helping an ecologist do an evening bat survey, it was such an eye-opening experience.
What makes you most passionate about your role?
After having the opportunity to work with a now retired ecologist, I have a deeper passion for maintaining habitats and protecting the wildlife that can be affected by highway works.
Being able to protect the environment and working on important highway projects at the same time is so rewarding. I used to work within the contaminated land industry, so this role is very different.
I’m lucky, I get support from two different teams, the Suffolk Highways Contract team and Environment team - so there are lots of people to get to know and cross-departmental collaboration.
How do you feel your job has contributed to your personal development?
If you follow your passion, then some days work doesn’t feel like a job at all. Since starting in October 2023, I have already been promoted to a Senior Environmental Advisor.
My role requires me to deliver training courses to operatives, clients and other advisory roles, so I had the opportunity to complete an NVQ L3 award in Education and Training funded by the business. This is something I am so grateful for because it is a transferable qualification that I can take with me throughout my career.
What do you think people would be surprised to know about you?
I have two children that keep me busy with their sporting adventures, but I love lifting weights and working out in my local exercise classes! For me, exercise keeps my body and brain energised.
I’m always up for getting involved and getting my hands dirty at work too, here I am on a site visit laying flexi pave - our guys made this look so easy, huge credit to them, it’s a lot harder than it looks!
Thank you, Keeley, for your hard work and welcome to our M Group “hall of fame.”
