A landslip occurred, due to substantial rainfall, on one of the main railway lines between Three Bridges, West Sussex and Gatwick Airport, disrupting services and passengers’ journeys.

The 30-metre stretch of railway required quick response and as part of our Control Period 7 (CP7) Southern framework with Network Rail, we were on site within two hours to scope the site and put necessary procedures in place to prepare for repair.

We installed a sheet-piled wall, consisting of 59 six-metre-long steel piles to the toe of the embankment followed by long soil nails to stiffen the earthwork, providing long-term stability to the site.

Our Rail team collaborated with colleagues, based at Gatwick, using their site lighting and tools, to ensure we responded swiftly.

We’re focused on supporting local communities and as a result, offered materials to the allotments that were impacted by works. We’re also creating additional allotments in the space that was cleared during the project.

With three work crews on site day and night, we worked continuously to ensure the project was delivered safely and ahead of time.

Completing the repair 45 hours ahead of schedule, our experts handed the project back to the client making sure train services were able to resume as normal and in a timely manner.

The next phase of work involves our team rebuilding the embankment’s slope with new material.
