To prepare for future development, we’re working to install a new 355mm High performance polyethylene (HPPE) reinforcement main for the new homes. 90mm pipework is also being laid to service supplies to the new and pre-existing residents.
We’re working closely with current residents to make sure that the new infrastructure being installed with improving their water quality.
Task:
The site runs through a decommissioned military base and many developments. New houses, retail units, schools and a medical centre are planned for the region.
The new water main supply, which will also contain extra kilometres of brand-new pipe, will mean the military supply will not be needed, with the new supplies being metered and established to serve a higher capacity of residents, including the new developments.
Work is expected to continue into 2026.

Action:
Situated in Sevenoaks, Kent, an area of outstanding natural beauty, many of the trees are protected by preservation orders. Planning and coordination with the local stakeholders was essential, as well as adhering to stricter guidelines.
Before works started into the Fort Halstead phase (phase 11), a 12-meter radius of operation has been created that the team can not deviate from, and environmental plans outlining man hours and working days on-site were necessary. A ground penetration survey was also completed to ensure no unexploded devices were within the vicinity of our excavational works.
The project has continued into the former military post, with further limitations, such as strict easement for the sensitive assets within the ground, including fibre network for the fort. Strict working conditions were also in place, where buried asbestos has been identified.
Innovation:
We’ve been operating with a ‘green’ site and made several changes to support this, including introducing solar powered traffic management.
Result:
Phase 11 of the new mains connection is underway in West Gate, with an average of 100m of 355mm pipe laid weekly, putting the project ahead of schedule.
Communication with Global Commercial Real Estate (CBRE) Services and local residents has been essential and our customer service manager has been on-hand to address any concerns.
We’re working with Thames Water to build a commissioning plan to facilitate the local network, which will progress as the works continue into Fort Halstead.
