We’re proud to announce the launch of our M Group Highways Environment Strategy, setting a new benchmark for sustainability, innovation and partnership across UK infrastructure delivery.
Our Environment Strategy lays out a clear roadmap for the next three years, to significantly reduce carbon emissions, protect and enhance natural habitats, cut waste and support our partners in delivering sustainable highways projects.
Our ambitious targets include:
- Achieving net zero carbon by 2040
- Transitioning to 100% zero emission vehicles by 2035
- Eliminating avoidable waste from our operations.
Our commitments underpin the wider M Group approach to sustainability and best practice in every area of our work.
We’re particularly proud to build on our PAS 2080 accreditation, which we gained in October 2023 for Carbon Management in Infrastructure. Since 2023, we have continued to roll our robust carbon management processes across our operations.
As we look to the future, we’re identifying opportunities for carbon reduction as early as possible in project design, allowing us to secure the greatest possible whole life carbon savings, right from the outset.
In our strategy, we highlight the work we continue to do to align as a Nature Positive business, following the signing of the pledge in 2025. Aligning with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations, we’re introducing frameworks to assess, monitor and improve our impact on nature, including:
- Mapping complex interactions across our operations, procurement and supply chain.
- Identifying opportunities and risks for nature throughout our value chain.
- Introducing transparent, science-based metrics for continuous improvement.
This approach goes beyond compliance, with projects already delivering 20%+ Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), such as our Peterborough Highways contract.
By embedding nature-based thinking and targeting decarbonisation across all that we do, we’re delivering highways infrastructure ready for the challenges of today and resilient against the demands of tomorrow.

We look forward to continuing to working with our partners, clients and communities as we set a new standard in delivering safer, greener highways.
