We’ve completed the St John’s Footbridge project on behalf of Network Rail, providing a modern solution to make pedestrian journeys safer and smoother.
Delivered on time, the new footbridge opened recently, under 12 months from when the project began.
As part of the project, our team has worked to create a modern bridge to replace the old footbridge.
Working alongside our client and supply chain partners, we demolished the existing footbridge, designing a new single-span footbridge that conforms to our clients’ standards while meeting stakeholder requirements.
The project highlight was the 26-hour possession, which saw the 26t structure supplied to the site in three sections.
Key project milestones included:
· Forming bankseat foundations, which were cast in-situ. This consisted of 6m CGA piles, with abutment poured on top to take the new bridge.
· Transporting the main span in three sections and assembling it on stillages on the track.
· Lifting the span into position using a Kirow crane during the abnormal possession.
· Constructing new access ramps and steps either side of the bridge.
· Completing landscaping and installing fencing on both sides of the new structure.
Robbie Jones, Programme Manager at M Group Rail & Aviation, said: “This project marks a significant improvement in infrastructure. In collaboration with our client and supply chain, we’ve delivered a modern solution that enhances user journeys. We’re proud to have delivered this project on time, for the public to start using.”
