ESG I Oxfordshire Highways Alliance delivers car park transformation for Abingdon Vale Cricket Club
Our M Group Highways Oxfordshire team has worked alongside Oxfordshire County Council, MJ Titchmarsh Construction Ltd and Hazell & Jefferies to deliver a £3,000 transformation for Abingdon Vale Cricket Club.
Last year, the cricket club generously offered our team temporary storage for the local project, which is when our team recognised the club’s need for a better car park, as it was unsurfaced and became muddy and unusable in wet weather.
The cricket club plays a huge role within the local community, supporting 250 players from age five onwards. The clubhouse is also home to Thames Valley Croquet Club and many other community groups. We wanted to support the car park refurbishment, as a great opportunity to give back to the community.
Working with Oxfordshire County Council and our network of sub-contractors within the Oxfordshire Highways Alliance, the refurb formed part of our commitment to deliver social value within the areas where we work.
MJ Titchmarsh Construction cleared vegetation from the car park’s surface and planed it using recycled road planings, provided by Hazell & Jefferies. The ground was levelled and thoroughly compacted, to make sure it will provide a good surface for the future.
Rob Hood, Chair of Abingdon Vale Cricket Club, said: “In bad weather, the car park would become a real quagmire; now we can use the car park all year round. We would never have been able to do this work ourselves without compromising all the other work we do. Without the social value project, we’d have been stuck with our muddy car park for many more years.”
He added: “It’s fantastic that Oxfordshire County Council and M Group and its sub-contractors like M J Titchmarsh and Hazell & Jefferies are taking on these kinds of projects to support the wider community.”
