M Group Highways has been awarded  a second major contract by Sizewell C, to deliver significant improvements to local roads surrounding the nuclear power station site.

Over the next two and a half years, our team will carry out 18 infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing road safety and quality.

The upgrades include resurfacing and road repairs, drainage enhancements, traffic calming measures, junction upgrades, and construction of new cycleways and footways.

These works form part of Sizewell C’s commitment to improving local roads so that construction traffic can safely and efficiently get to and from site. They will also provide long-lasting benefits to surrounding communities by enhancing road conditions and safety.

Last year, we successfully resurfaced 3.1 km of the B1122, significantly improving the quality and safety of the road and reducing noise for local properties. The road now has an enforceable 30mph limit, further increasing safety for drivers and residents.

Dan Wood, Contracts Manager at M Group Highways, said: “This is a significant framework award for our team, and we look forward to working with Sizewell C to bring essential highways improvements to the communities that surround the project.

“Across M Group, we’re working to deliver the infrastructure that the communities of the UK need and the planet deserves. We look forward to introducing innovations and working with our supply chain partners to use technology which ensures the work we deliver is both safe and sustainable, in line with our safer, greener highways business strategy.”

With a strong presence across Suffolk, we continue our partnership with Suffolk County Council, delivering highway maintenance and improvement works throughout the county. Under the new framework, we’ll deepen its engagement with local supply chain partners, while supporting regional employment and outreach initiatives in line with the social value objectives shared by Sizewell C and M Group Highways.

Mobilisation for the contract is underway, with groundbreaking activities expected to begin this summer.

Rick Watler, Site Delivery Lead, Sizewell C, said: “We’re delighted M Group Highways has been awarded a second contract, building on the works they carried out successfully last year.

“The B1122 is now a safer road to travel on, and by upgrading more of the local road infrastructure, we’ll not only be improving safety for local communities for generations to come, we’ll also be assisting with the construction of Sizewell C.”
