As part of the Caledonia Water Alliance, a joint venture alliance between AECOM and M Group Water, we’ve entered a key phase in Scottish Water’s project to upgrade a vital strategic rising sewer main between Renfrew and Glasgow.

Following successful completion of the first phase, which saw nearly a kilometre of pipe being relined and upgraded, this second phase will protect the section running from North Lodge pumping station as well.

The same overland pipes from phase one are being reused to create a temporary overland route to pump the sewer flows while the existing underground pipe is relined from access pits excavated at strategic points along the route.

Once completed, flows will be restored to the newly upgraded rising main, the temporary pipeline removed, and access pits backfilled and the area reinstated.

A section of Ferry Road in Renfrew is required to be closed to all traffic for four months to allow engineers to route the temporary overland bypass pipe. We’ve been working closely with our client, the community and local businesses to make sure that the work has as little impact as possible.
