We’re proud to announce that we’ve been recognised for our environmental responsibility with four prestigious Green Apple Awards for 2025.

Our first two Green Apple Awards recognise Southern Water’s Southampton Link Main project for environmental best practice. Delivered by MGjv, a joint venture between M Group Water and Galliford Try, the project is a key investment in the resilience of the Southampton water network.

The project has seen our teams construct a new 17km water pipeline, connecting Otterbourne Water Supply Works with the city of Southampton. Once complete, the pipeline will also link with two underground reservoirs, creating new water reserves and helping to reduce reliance on local chalk streams, including the Test and Itchen.

The two Green Apple Awards recognise the project’s strong environmental performance, from sustainable design and construction methods to waste minimisation, ecological protection and community engagement.

Our third Green Apple Award celebrates our M Group Energy team who have delivered significant carbon efficiencies through Project Levi and their One Data collection programme.

The programme has revolutionised the way we read traditional meters through the use of innovative route optimisation technology and by merging water and energy meter reading teams.

By merging teams, we’ve increased meter density- allowing more readings in less time and significantly boosted workforce efficiency. This has enabled 140 vehicles to be removed from service, cutting road miles by 622,000 per year and saving 69,000 litres of fuel - a reduction of 255,657kg CO2e - and contributing to cleaner local air quality.

Our fourth Green Apple Award recognises our M Group Energy team for Carbon Reduction. Gained by our Renewable Connections team at Monk Fryston, the award celebrates the teams’ efforts to develop best-practice solutions in collaboration with the client, including innovative soil stabilisation techniques.

By taking a life-cycle approach to minimising impact at each stage and using innovative, sustainable approaches to development, the project resulted in carbon savings amounting to an estimated 1400 TCO2e. Implementing Soil Science minimised traffic disruption, noise and dust to local communities by significantly reducing the number of deliveries to site. Dust suppression systems and a noise mitigation scheme further reduced impact.

These awards reflect our ongoing commitment to embedding sustainability into everything we do across our business. We continue to invest in innovation and best practice to deliver measurable environmental improvements, as we deliver essential infrastructure services for life.
