Recently, Drayton Highways Maintenance Depot opened its doors to local people and county councillors to help them understand more about how we keep the network running.

Our Highways team ran a guided tour, led by Sean Rooney, Head of Highway Maintenance and Road Safety at Oxfordshire County Council. The tour included demonstrations of repair techniques like Roadmender Mastic, Paco Patch and our carbon-reducing electrical pothole repair plant, the M Dragon Patcher.

The other councillors had the chance to attend presentations led by our highways operatives and subcontractors including BGG, Drainline and Cashelton. This was a great opportunity for our people to explain our capabilities and the work we support across the contract.

The Highways team were also joined by our colleagues from the Ecology, Tree and Joint Oxfordshire Resilience Team, who help the county prepare for local emergencies.

Our road marking subcontractor, Wilson & Scott, set the councillors the challenge of trying their hand at painting road lines – using sand instead of paint, this was an interactive way to get them involved.

With the success and positive response we received from local councillors, we hope to repeat the event at our Deddington depot in early 2026.
