M Group Highways is proud to celebrate 10 years of excellence in road maintenance with the continued use of the M Group Dragon Patcher, an innovative solution that has revolutionised the approach to repairing road defects.

Since its initial introduction in 2015, through a joint trial on M Group’s Highways contracts with Oxfordshire County Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council, the Dragon Patcher has become an integral part of its operations. The pioneering decision to embrace this innovative approach to defect repair a decade ago, continues to deliver safer, greener highways today.

In its commitment to find and develop low-cost, preventative maintenance solutions for its clients, ten years ago the business saw the Dragon Patcher as an attractive investment, with its ability to deliver cost savings of up to 84% compared to conventional pothole repair methods.

Today, M Group Highways operates a fleet of 10 Dragon Patchers across many of its local authority contracts, with four of these machines currently used in Devon, where its team maintains 12,800 km of local roads, the largest of any local authority in the country.

In the past 12 months, Dragon Patchers have successfully repaired over 125,000 defects using the technology, covering an impressive area of 315,840m².

This advanced technology uses a unique process that cleans the road surface with compressed air, heats it to the optimal temperature, and then applies a durable repair material, allowing for effective bonding and long-lasting repairs.

This approach not only enhances the quality and longevity of repairs but also significantly reduces carbon footprint. The Dragon Patcher's efficiency means that it operates five times faster than traditional methods, leading to zero excavation work.

M Group is striving to be at the forefront of technological advancements in the infrastructure sector, providing innovative and environmentally responsible services to our clients. The Dragon Patcher exemplifies our dedication to this”.
As we look to the future, we’re constantly working to leverage cutting-edge technologies to ensure the highest standards of safety, durability and sustainability in road maintenance.”
