Across M Group Water, we’re working to leave a positive, lasting legacy in the communities where we work.

Recently, our teams have been showing their support for our local communities by taking part in several engagement projects. Here’s a taster of what we’ve got involved with so far this year:

·       In March, our Thames Water Developer Services and Smart Metering team assisted a local farm to plant hedgerows.

·       Our Thames Water team also continued to support KASBAH, a supported housing charity, with Colin Osborne, plumbing trainer, and other members of the team giving a talk to residents about the importance of saving water, sharing some top tips throughout the visit.

·       In April, our team engaged with Ebbsfleet Academy to inspire students with an interest in STEM. The pupils had the opportunity to take part in the water supply challenge, a board game style challenge where pupils plan and construct a water supply network.

·       Kerry Duke, Contract Manager, also visited a small group of pupils at the academy, who will be joining us for work experience. During the visit, Kerry shared her journey and spoke openly about the challenges she has to overcome due to being neurodiverse. The pupils found the talk interesting and relatable.

·       Our team recently donated logs to support the Swindon Logs Project, as part of the Swindon Growth Project. We preserved several felled logs, getting involved with schools and community groups to help turn them into bat boxes, birdhouses and bug hotels. These items will be returned to the local area to support biodiversity.

·        We were approached by Asquith Primary School, who were looking for some large diameter pipes for pupils to play with and crawl through. Jason Young, Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager, noticed we had some extra pipes and thought it was an ideal opportunity to re-purpose rather than dispose. Delivery was arranged and once in position we asked the pupils to be water engineers and carry out inspections on the pipes, which encouraged them to crawl through the pipes. The pupils had a great time with our operatives, and we hope they continue to enjoy the pipes!

Laura Barnes, People Director at M Group Water said: “ Across M Group Water, we know it’s our responsibility to leave a positive imprint in the areas close to our projects. As we look towards the rest of 2025, we’ll continue to actively find and create opportunities to support our people, our clients, and the communities where we work.”
