This week (17-24 November) marks the UK’s biggest road safety event, organised by ‘Brake’, the road safety charity.
Following the success of last year’s event, our M Group Plant & Fleet team returned to Trotts Hill Primary and Nursery School in Stevenage, encouraging pupils to stay safer when they are out and about.
The day started with Leanne Sheff, SHEQ Manager from our Plant & Fleet team, giving the 120 pupils a presentation on ‘road safety heroes’. The session gave insight into some road safety heroes, including the emergency services, school crossing patrols and the grown-ups who hold their hands while crossing the roads.
Leanne then ran a breakout session, where pupils could draw their safety hero and found out more about how they can be safer when crossing the road, using road crossings and looking both ways.
This year, we were also joined by Hertfordshire police, who gave the pupils a tour of a police car, alongside a road safety Q&A session.
Speaking on the importance of Road Safety education, Leanne said: “It was a pleasure to visit Trotts Hill Primary School again. The pupils were so enthusiastic and engaged, and it was great to see some of them remember us from last year. We loved giving the children something tangible to connect with, it really helps make road safety fun and memorable. Helping them understand how to stay safe on and around our roads is what it’s all about.”
Trotts Hill Primary and Nursery School, said: “Our pupils loved learning more about road safety heroes and the session was a great reminder on how to stay safe near roads.
“Thank you to M Group and Hertfordshire police for such an educational session.”
