Embracing social value: M Group continues to support Scottish communities with CWA social value plan

As part of the Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA), a joint venture between AECOM and M Group Water, we’re continuing to set targets to create positive social impact and promote sustainable development within communities throughout Scotland.
Our CWA social value plan for 2024-2030 highlights how we’re building on what we’ve already achieved and highlights our forward thinking on how we can support individuals, communities and the environment over the next five years.
Our plan sets out how we’ll leverage our resources, expertise and influence, to create positive social impact, including environmental sustainability, community engagement, employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, ethical sourcing and more, into our daily operations across M Group.
This plan builds on our 2023-24 highlights, including:
- Delivering 884 weeks of apprenticeship training
- Delivering over 335 weeks of training to support our people
- £76k donated to local charities
- 348 hours of volunteering
- Over 95% of our people completing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training
- Over 8,500 tonnes of carbon emissions saved, with over 388k litres of HVO fuel used.
In the period 2023-24, we delivered 35% Social Return on Investment (SORI), 30% above the sector average*.
As we continue to make a difference to the communities across Scotland, we will continue to:
- Implement inclusive hiring practices, provide diversity training and establish employee resource groups (ERGs) for underrepresented groups.
- Invest in new skills, jobs and supply chains, delivering improvements in the regions where we work.
- Support community development projects, partner with local non-profits, encourage employee volunteer opportunities, attend STEM activities.
- Transition to renewable energy sources, reduce carbon emissions by 50% by March 2026 and promote recycling.
