We’ve launched a trial in Devon featuring Elastomac, a cutting-edge polymer-modified mastic asphalt.

Elastomac is a unique, flowable, hot-applied mastic that effortlessly conforms to the contours of potholes, effectively bonding with the existing road surface.
What sets Elastomac apart from traditional materials is its eco-friendly composition: each tonne incorporates approximately seven end-of-life waste tyres, significantly reducing landfill waste.
In collaboration with Devon County Council, our trial focused on evaluating Elastomac’s effectiveness for repairing small to medium-sized road defects.
We tested it across various road types, including A-roads, junctions, and areas subject to high braking and turning forces. Its versatility allowed us to tackle challenging issues, such as sunken trenches and repairs around gullies, problems that often occur with traditional repair techniques.
The application process is both simple and efficient. After minimal surface preparation, Elastomac is heated to 195°C and directly applied to the defect, eliminating the need to cut out damaged areas. This not only reduces waste but also minimises disruption for road users.
Key Benefits:
- Exceptional durability: Elastomac demonstrated impressive resilience, especially on high-traffic routes with heavy vehicle loads.
- Rapid application: Our team completed repairs on the A377 in Bishops Tawton in just one night under two-way lights, a task that would have typically required multiple nights and full road closures using conventional methods.
- Lower carbon footprint: Our carbon footprint analysis indicated a remarkable 23% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional patching techniques.
- Increased productivity: Our teams averaged 62m² per day, achieving up to 120m² in optimal conditions. This efficiency, along with reduced traffic management needs, results in substantial cost savings and less disruption for the public.
As a result of this successful trial, Devon County Council has partnered with us to implement Elastomac throughout the entire region and has extended training for its workforce to enhance their skills in applying this innovative material.
