Following our teams work to install Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) on Rosmead Street, Hull, as part of the Living with Water scheme, we returned to give back to the community that supported us throughout the project.
The project, which delivered Hull’s first permeable paved street, designed to protect homes for recurrent surface water flooding, were a step towards enhancing the city’s resilience to extreme weather events.
To show our appreciation for St. John’s Church’s generosity, who let us use their space to hold consultations for the project, we sponsored the regeneration of their communal garden. This involved clearing and resurfacing the overgrown rear of the church, building raised beds, installing compost bins and fitting water butts.
We also planted fruit and vegetable beds, with the produce being used to supply the food bank hosted by the church, making sure that the raised beds and areas were accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
The St John’s community are already making great use of their new area, with local children who visit helping to sow seeds and pick fruit and vegetables.
Our Rosmead Street project was recognised with a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ award at the Institution of Civil Engineers’ (ICE) Yorkshire & Humber 2024 Awards.
ESG drivers shape our sector, driving innovation to tackle client challenges.
