At M Group, we're embarking on a journey of self-reflection at an organisational level through our upcoming Double Materiality Assessment (DMA).
A DMA examines both how sustainability issues such as climate change and supply disruption might impact our business and looks at how our business activities, such as our purchasing choices and operational behaviour, affect the wider world.
This dual perspective is what makes the assessment "double" – it looks at materiality (what’s important and relevant) from both the business’ viewpoint of the world and society's viewpoint of us.
For us, this means carefully considering not just how climate change or resource scarcity might affect our operations, but also how our activities impact the communities we work with and the environments in which we operate.
The process, scheduled to run throughout summer 2025, will see us engaging with a wide range of stakeholders – from employees and clients to suppliers and community representatives – to identify and prioritise the sustainability topics that matter most. We'll assess these topics both in terms of their financial significance to M Group and their importance to society and the environment.
As a UK-based business, we're not legally required to conduct a Double Materiality Assessment, which is primarily associated with the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
However, we believe this approach represents best practice in sustainability management and aligns perfectly with our aim to be greater than the sum of our parts.
By undertaking this assessment voluntarily, we're creating an opportunity to make sure our sustainability efforts are focused where they can have the most meaningful impact. It will enable us to develop an ESG strategy that’s truly authentic to our values of being responsible, open, together and ambitious.
The insights gained from our DMA process will help us to think globally while acting locally. They will enable us to project ourselves confidently into the future, with a clear understanding of the global impacts of our business decisions and the responsibilities that come with them.
As we move forward with this assessment, we'll be reaching out to many of our stakeholders for their perspectives. Their input will be invaluable in helping us identify the issues where we can make the most significant positive contribution through our operations, investments and innovation efforts.
Our DMA isn't just about creating another report – it's about building a strategy and roadmap for a more sustainable, responsible and impactful future. It's about making conscious choices about the company we want to be and ensuring our actions consistently reflect our values.
We look forward to sharing the results of this assessment and the strategic priorities it helps us identify as we continue our sustainability journey together.
ESG drivers shape our sector, driving innovation to tackle client challenges.
