What is your role and what do you do day-to-day?

I'm a talent acquisition specialist working within the projects & compliance team. Most days involve planning, managing, and delivering projects related to the talent acquisition team. I drive change, develop our applicant tracking system called ePloy, and collaborate with People Services to enhance our HR system. I also work with our recruitment process outsourcing provider, Datum, and the tax team to ensure compliance with IR35 regulations.

How did you get to where you are today in your career?

I stumbled into HR about eight years ago and quickly developed a love for recruitment and the technical aspects of the field. Seeking a change, I trained as a telecom engineer at Openreach, fixing issues with public telephone lines and broadband. Later, I joined M Group Telecom as a surveyor supporting the VM02 contract. Eventually, I returned to recruitment in M Group Water, helping managers meet their hiring needs. This experience sparked my interest in improving our system. I applied for a secondment to work in M Group, directly supporting everything related to ePloy, and I've been doing this ever since.

What skills do you need to be able to do your role?

To excel in my role, I need strong collaboration and partnership skills, problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of data.

What do you love or enjoy most about working at M Group?

Since joining M Group, I've been given numerous opportunities. I enjoy the variety in my work, whether it's fixing a technical issue or supporting a wider project. One day I might be working from home, and the next, traveling across the country to visit one of our many offices.

It’s definitely been the opportunity to revamp our ATS system, ePloy. Leading this project has helped improve our ways of working and ensures we can attract the best talent to join M Group. This experience has been incredibly rewarding and impactful for both my career and the Group.
