Hastings railway station, East Sussex, required trunking and lighting upgrades due to being out of date and life expired. Network Rail needed urgent works to be carried out to improve the station and make it safer for passengers to use.

Due to their condition, the decision was made to replace all lighting trunking, lids and hangers. The work would require the team to upgrade these assets across four station platforms.

The team arranged a programme of work on an existing possession at the station, collaborating with the initial contractor to ensure the project was delivered without impacting other projects.

Using our team’s expertise, Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) tower scaffolding was erected, and all electrical isolations were carried out in accordance with appropriate Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) wiring regulations.

To deliver quickly for the client, the team split, with one group removing existing lights and trunking and the other installing the replacements. This was a continuous project with teams working over a series of days and nights to complete the work.

Making sure we delivered as sustainably and cost effectively as possible, any assets that were suitable were reused.

Before completing the project and handing back to the client, we carried out extensive testing and commissioning to ensure everything was compliant and safe to be used.

These vital upgrades have ensured that future passengers experienced a safer, more accessible service when visiting Hastings railway station.

Working closely with the client ensured the project met the deadline and was cost effective.
