At M Group, we believe that responsible governance isn't just about compliance—it's about making meaningful commitments that drive positive change throughout our organisation and beyond.

Our subscription to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) represents this approach, aligning our business operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.
The UN Global Compact provides us with a robust framework for responsible business practices that extends far beyond tick-box compliance.

By committing to its ten principles, we've joined a global community of forward-thinking organisations working to create a more sustainable and inclusive world. This international perspective is invaluable as we develop our approach to environmental, social, and governance matters.

Since joining the UNGC, we've submitted annual reports detailing our progress and challenges across these principles. This regular reporting cycle creates accountability and helps us identify areas where we can make more significant impacts. It also provides a globally recognised structure that complements our other reporting commitments.

Our UNGC reporting sits within a broader governance framework that includes several other important disclosure mechanisms.

We report to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which has validated our ambitious target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030.

We fulfil our obligations under the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework and participate in the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS). Our annual statement of accounts includes climate-related financial disclosures, and eligible entities within our Group publish gender pay gap information in line with UK requirements.

While these various reporting frameworks serve important purposes, our commitment to the UN Global Compact is particularly significant because it addresses the full spectrum of sustainability challenges. Rather than focusing solely on environmental metrics or governance structures, the UNGC encourages us to take a view of our impact on society and the planet.

This approach aligns perfectly with our values of being responsible, open, together and ambitious. It challenges us to consider how each business decision affects not just our financial performance, but our entire range of stakeholders—from employees and clients to communities and environments across our supply chain.

Looking ahead, we're working to further integrate the UNGC principles into our business strategies and operations. This includes expanding our influence throughout our supply chain, as reflected in our new Supply Chain Code of Conduct. By encouraging our partners to adopt similar principles, we can amplify our positive impact far beyond our direct operations.

The transition to our new sustainability rating partner, Ecovadis, further supports this direction. With its comprehensive assessment methodology covering 21 sustainability criteria across four core areas, Ecovadis complements our UNGC commitment by providing detailed feedback on our performance and clear pathways for improvement.

Through these global commitments and partnerships, M Group is demonstrating that responsible governance isn't just about meeting minimum requirements—it's about continuously raising standards, embracing accountability, and contributing to solutions for our shared global challenges.
